Directional Trends: How Streetwhacks Measures Bullish and Bearish Moves

Directional trend measurement scores how decisively a stock moves one way — combining price trajectory, momentum persistence and volume support into ranked bullish/bearish views.

Last updated: September 2026 · Reviewed quarterly · Data: live NSE/BSE feeds, 09:15–15:30 IST

What directional trend measurement is

A continuous ranking of directional decisiveness — sustained one-way movement with volume ranks far above single-candle spikes. Mixed readings produce no classification rather than a weak one.

How it is calculated

  • Inputs: live price trajectories, momentum persistence factors and traded-volume support.
  • Ranking: bullish and bearish movers are ranked separately so each side gets a clean watchlist.
  • Noise control: illiquid micro-moves are down-weighted; gap-open distortion fades after the first 15–30 minutes.
  • Exact weightings are proprietary. See methodology §§3–5 and Directional Trend.

What the labels mean

  • Positive Trend (bullish alignment): momentum, volume and price action align upward — buyers in control for now.
  • Negative Trend (bearish alignment): distribution or downward alignment — sellers in control for now.
  • Labels are analytical classifications, not recommendations and not value judgments.

Limitations

  • Strong direction can reverse on news — rankings measure what is happening, not what happens next.
  • Trends describe momentum, not value; overvalued stocks can stay bullish and cheap stocks bearish.
  • Informational analytics, not investment advice. See disclaimer.

Example

A mid-cap IT name ranks high on the positive side at 10:00 with rising volume, Market Trend shows a fresh Positive Trend indicator at 10:20, and IT shows sector concentration — the kind of confluence readers review further, with invalidation referenced to the morning low.
