Early momentum

What Directional Trend measures

  • Directional strength score — how decisively a stock is moving in one direction, combining price trajectory, momentum persistence and volume support.
  • Bullish vs bearish splits — separate rankings for upside and downside movers, so shorts and longs each get a clean watchlist.
  • Early-stage detection — the scanner is tuned to flag developing moves, not just stocks already up 8% and on every TV channel.
  • Sector context — see whether a mover is a lone wolf or part of a sector-wide directional push.
Who it is for

Who uses Directional Trend

  • Breakout and momentum traders building a daily long/short watchlist in minutes.
  • Positional traders screening for names entering sustained directional phases.
  • Intraday traders filtering the morning universe down to stocks with real directional energy.
  • Risk-aware traders who want shorts explicitly ranked instead of only hunting longs.

How to use Directional Trend in 3 steps

  1. Pick your side. Check the bullish ranking for longs and the bearish ranking for shorts — trade the side the broader market supports (confirm regime on Index Pulse).
  2. Demand confirmation. A high directional score plus a fresh Market Trend signal plus supporting Market Pulse volume is the triple confirmation professionals insist on.
  3. Time the entry. Direction tells you what; use price levels, VWAP or the first pullback for when — never chase a vertical first candle.

Example: a mid-cap IT stock appears high on the bullish ranking at 10:00 AM with rising volume, Market Trend fires a fresh LONG at 10:20, and the IT sector shows concentration — a textbook directional setup with defined invalidation below the morning low.

How the data is calculated

  • Inputs: live NSE price trajectories, momentum persistence factors and traded-volume support, re-ranked continuously during market hours (09:15–15:30 IST).
  • Ranking: stocks are scored on directional decisiveness — sustained one-way movement with volume ranks far above choppy single-candle spikes.
  • Noise control: illiquid micro-moves are down-weighted so the rankings stay tradable.

Limitations to know

  • Strong direction can reverse violently on news — rankings measure what is happening, not what will happen next.
  • Gap openings can distort early-session scores; many traders wait for the first 15–30 minutes to settle.
  • Analytical rankings, not investment advice — always define your stop before entry. See our disclaimer.

Directional Trend FAQs

What is the Directional Trend scanner?

A Streetwhacks scanner that continuously ranks NSE stocks by bullish and bearish directional strength, helping traders find developing trends early based on price trajectory, momentum persistence and volume support.

How is it different from Market Trend signals?

Market Trend fires discrete LONG/SHORT signal cards per stock; Directional Trend provides continuous ranked watchlists of the strongest directional movers. They complement each other — rankings for discovery, signals for timing.

Can it find short candidates too?

Yes — bearish movers get their own explicit ranking, which is useful for traders who short intraday or want to avoid longs in weak names.

Is Directional Trend free?

It is a Pro feature with preview access on the free plan. See pricing for plan details.

Which stocks are covered?

NSE-listed stocks across segments, ranked live during Indian market hours (09:15–15:30 IST).
